ASTORINO: STATE
BUDGET PROPOSAL ‘POISONOUS TO WESTCHESTER’
Calls
on county senate delegation to demand
spending
reform and mandate relief
White
Plains, NY-April 3…The New York State budget proposal now being
debating in Albany would be poisonous to Westchester taxpayers and the
county’s long-term economic health and must be renegotiated,
said Westchester County Executive candidate Rob Astorino (R) today.
Mr.
Astorino has repeatedly called on Westchester’s state senate
delegation to vote “no” on the state budget proposal, which raises
taxes on every Westchester resident and fails to do anything about the
runaway state spending and mandate costs that have driven the cost of
living in Westchester through the roof. Westchester families pay the
highest property taxes in America.
“Westchester
County is about to get the short end of the stick again,” Mr.
Astorino said. “What we need is spending reform, mandate relief and
a new pension tier. What we are getting is higher spending, higher
taxes and utter disregard for the problems we are facing. The
Westchester state senate delegation has the power to stop this budget
fiasco today. For the sake of this county, it must.”
The
state budget is expected to be decided by a single vote, so any
Westchester state senator can effectively veto the budget with a
‘no’ vote, Astorino said.
Mr.
Astorino is running for County Executive to "stop the tax
madness; bring smarter, better government to Westchester, and restore
a high standard of ethics to county government." He has said
that, as county executive, he will be a forceful voice in Albany on
behalf of Westchester County.
