MEET ROB ASTORINO

Rob Astorino & FamilyRob Astorino, 42, a lifelong Westchester County resident, is a 2009 candidate for Westchester County Executive. He garnered 42% of the vote for that position in 2005 on a government reform and tax relief platform.

Mr. Astorino, a married father of three, believes Westchester County government has grown inefficient and unresponsive. He is an advocate for streamlined government to save money and improve service delivery, excellence in education and strong environmental protections.

Mr. Astorino was first elected to public office at the age of 21 as a member of the Mount Pleasant School District Board of Education. He later served as the board’s vice president. He served on the Mount Pleasant Town Board for 12 years, including six years as Deputy Supervisor and eight as Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, which oversees the Mount Pleasant Police Department. In 2003, he was elected to serve a term on the Westchester County Legislature.

In 2006, Governor George Pataki appointed Mr. Astorino to the Hudson Valley Greenway. He serves on the Westchester Business Council’s Government Action Committee, is a charter member of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club, a member of the North Castle Land Trust, and is a union member in good standing with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He is also a past secretary of the Mount Pleasant Conservation Advisory Council and served two-terms as Vice-Chairman of the Westchester
County Board of Ethics.

Mr. Astorino has had a long career in the news radio industry. He is currently station manager and program director of The Catholic Channel on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio. He hosts a weekly show from St. Patrick’s Cathedral with New York Archbishop TImothy Dolan.

Mr. Astorino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a Spanish/Political Science minor from Fordham University in 1989. In 2001, he studied in Barcelona, Spain and received a Spanish Immersion Diploma from the Enforex School of International Studies.

Rob and his wife Sheila live in Hawthorne with their son Sean, 6, and daughters Kiley Rose, 4 and newborn Ashlin Grace Astorino.
