Republican candidate for governor and former two-term Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino today announced that his campaign’s first filing will show $1 million cash on hand. An impressive 91 percent of the 1,000 donors who have given since the launch two months ago reside in New York, with a median donation of $50.
“I’m happy with our initial fundraising efforts, especially since we only started 8 weeks ago. We have strong grassroots support in every region of this state and what I hear most from those who have invested in our campaign is they believe I’m the best chance to win next November, and that I will transform New York and put us back on the path to prosperity and security. Perhaps most important, they believe in me and that’s truly humbling,” said Astorino. “We’re just getting started.”
Moving forward, fundraisers and events are already scheduled for the summer and fall, including this Tuesday in Rochester.
Astorino ran against Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2014, holding him to just 54% and impressively winning the state outside of New York City, including 46 of the 62 counties, despite being outspent by more than 8-1. It was the closest - by far - of Cuomo’s seven election contests.
